Behavior Managment

The Clip Chart System

·         There is a chart hanging in the front of the classroom with 7 levels. Each student has a clip (clothespin) on the chart.

o   Super Student (highest level)

o   Great Job

o   Good Day

o   Ready to Learn

o   Think About It

o   Teacher’s Choice

o   Parent Contact (lowest level)

·         All students begin each day at the Ready to Learn level in the middle.

·         Acts of good behavior allow for the student to move their clip up a level. Acts of poor behavior require the student to move their clip down a level.

·         The system is designed to highlight positive behavior and give students an incentive to complete acts of kindness within the classroom. There is nothing wrong with remaining on Ready to Learn all day. However the system gives recognition to students who go out of their way to be helpful and generous.

·         Students who are at Super Student on the end of the day (an honorable achievement) receive a jewel to decorate their clip. Eventually clips that are full of jewels will be retired for the student either to display in the class or take home. A new clip will then be given out.

·         Students who reach Parent Contact will fill out a sheet explaining to their parent/guardian the issue that occurred during the day.

·         At the end of each day, students will indicate which level they were at on a weekly Behavior Tracker. The Behavior Tracker will be in the students' Green Take Home folder in the 3 prongs. Parents/Guardians, please sign this Behavior Tracker each weekend and return it to school on Monday.
